Carole Fachina, founder of the Beninese brand ILEWA, finds her inspiration in her passion for art and love of her land. The name “ILEWA” resonates as “our land” in the Yoruba language. Since her beginnings in 2018, she has energetically launched into the creation of decorative objects and kitchen accessories in terracotta, in collaboration with artisan potters based in Boukoumbe, in the Atacora region, in the northwest of Benin. This approach celebrates respect for the Earth, a fundamental value in Africa.

Ilêwa's ambitions

Carole, a true conductor, works closely with these craftsmen whom she carefully selects and meticulously supervises. ILEWA would like to develop a product catalog with more affordable costs, a production unit that expands to meet growing demand and a team of people trained in Cotonou to ensure maximum proximity of stocks.

A committed brand

However, ILEWA’s true mission goes beyond creating quality handicrafts. The brand aims to fill the void in Benin’s craft sector by offering local pottery training. This initiative will allow local artisans to acquire new skills without having to look for experts outside the country. There is indeed a critical need for support in strengthening the skills of potters at the local level.
